How to Prepare & Apply — For Best Results

Getting great results with henna is all about preparation. Follow these steps carefully.

You will need: Bodrum Henna Powder, warm water (or black tea for deeper colour), a non-metallic bowl, an application brush, gloves, and cling film or a shower cap.

Step 1 — Mix the Paste

Pour the desired amount of henna powder into a non-metallic bowl. Gradually add warm water or warm black tea (tea enhances depth and shine) and stir until you reach a smooth, yoghurt-like consistency — not too runny, not too thick. For a richer colour, you can add a teaspoon of lemon juice.

Step 2 — Rest the Mixture

Cover the bowl with cling film and leave the paste to rest for 30–60 minutes at room temperature. This activates the dye release (lawsone), which is essential for a strong colour result. Do not skip this step.

Step 3 — Apply to Hair

Put on your gloves. Starting at the roots, apply the paste section by section, working through to the ends. Make sure every strand is fully coated. Use the application brush for precision around the hairline.

Step 4 — Wrap & Wait

Once fully applied, wrap your hair with cling film or a shower cap. Leave on for 1–3 hours depending on your desired colour intensity:

• 1 hour — Light, warm auburn tones
• 2 hours — Medium reddish-brown
• 3 hours — Deep, rich burgundy-brown

Applying gentle heat (e.g. wrapping a warm towel over the cap) will intensify the colour.

Step 5 — Rinse

Rinse thoroughly with warm water only — no shampoo on the first wash. The colour will continue to deepen slightly over the next 24–48 hours. Avoid washing hair again during this time for maximum colour payoff.

Important: Patch test recommended 48 hours before full application. Henna will not lighten hair — it adds colour on top of your natural shade. Results vary depending on starting hair colour.
